Total and partial joint replacement has finally moved out of the hospital. Our patient was pleased to have avoided a hospital for her total knee replacement. Hospital infection rates are higher than outpatient settings, and are more difficult to treat. Hospitals are also large, inefficient and expensive because they have to cater to a wide range of ill people, deal with multiple layers of unionized staff, and doctors of all specialties.
